Is it typical for firefox to send a virus warning with a phone # to call to fix the problem?
I got a warning on my computer screen today saying that my computer was in danger from a virus. The warning gave a phone number that I should call to give me instructions on how to eliminate the virus. I am concerned that this warning is actually a scam so I do not want to call the number provided unless I can verify that it is legitimate. Can you verify that it is, or is not, normal for firefox to warn of a virus and provide a phone number for the user to call? Thanks.

Hello,
It is a scam, do not contact the number. If you have the link, you can report it to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Centre:
To block these kind of popups, consider using extensions such as Adblock Plus
To check whether you are infected malware/virus, you can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
- MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
- AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
- Hitman Pro
- ESET Online Scanner
