I have upgraded my Windows from Vista to Windows 8. I have saved my password files from Vista on my desktop but cannot figure out how to import my old Firefox password files to the new Firefox. I have already imported my bookmarks but cannot determine how to "import" the password files.

Chosen solution

For the passwords you need these two matching files: key3.db (encryption key) and signons.sqlite

I have those two files saved but cannot figure out how to get them to restore my passwords to Windows 8.

PLEASE! Tell us where profiles are in Windows 8!

Search on "Profiles", default, and key3.db get No Results.

HELP.

The "Application Data" folder in XP/Win2K and the "AppData" folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 and later versions are hidden folders.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

cor-el! THANK YOU! Great response. Concise but with exactly what I needed. Already got it working. The longest part was figuring out how to get Windows 8 to delete the contents of the old Profile. Backspace does not do it as XP did. Delete does.

Thanks again for the super-fast reply.
