Despite following the Help instructions for getting Firefox to show my windows and tabs from the last time, when I close Firefox and reopen, my windows and tabs are not there. What can I do?
Each time I close Firefox (when I go away for a few days, or when the desktop closes overnight for some reason or toher) and reopen it, the tabs I had from the last session (usually Google calendar and Facebook) do not automatically open. Google gmail tab is there - and I'm pretty sure I always have to sign in. The "Help" directions from Firefox said to (1)close by clicking the Firefox button at the top of window, then clicking "Exit." To open, click on Firefox button at top, click "Options", select "General," and select "Show my windows and tabs from last time." The option "Show my windows etc" was already there, but I clicked okay, then closed Firefox per the instructions, and opened - only to find no tabs and windows but Google gmail.
Chosen solution
Restore Previous Session appears only on the default homepage - about:home - not on the old Google Firefox Start page - http://www.google.com/firefox or any other user set homepage.
There's also a History menu item Restore Previous Session, which does the same thing as on the about:home page.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the Browsing History.
- Tools > Options > Privacy: History: [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I am not aware that I've ever cleared the Browsing History - don't even know what that is, so I suspect that's not the source of my problem.
To make things more puzzling - to me, at least, I have a 2nd desktop computer at a vacation house, and on that computer Firefox always asks me if I want to restore last session when Firefox opens - a lovely option. Wish I could get it at home.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

On my Firefox home page on this machine (the other one is different), there's nothing but blank page. No place to click on Restore previous session.
On the History menu item, I could not find any choice for restore previous session. When I clicked on options, Show previosu windows and tabs was already displayed, but it made no difference. I'll try the links you gave for Profile folder and Session_Restore - although I'm pretty poor at this as you can tell.
Thanks for the help.
Neither of these worked for me- my Foxfire home page remains blank, and could not locate the history menu item for restore session - it just shows every window I've had open for a long time.
Thanks for offering help. Any more suggestions?
Hi :) Have you updated your Firefox to 10.0.1? I had the same problem but I fixed it by doing what you said: To open, click on Firefox button at top, click "Options", select "General," and select "Show my windows and tabs from last time." Hope this helps.. if not.. I don't know anymore :(
