How to make "Homepage" and "new window" (aka startup page) different?
Under "options", "Home" there is a setting for:
"Homepage and new windows (aka startup page)"
What I need is for the homepage to be yahoo and new window (aka startup page) to be blank
This has nothing to do with new tabs!
Basically, I only want to see my homepage when I click the little house icon

Try to set browser.startup.page to 0 (zero) on the about:config page.
- browser.startup.page = 0
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Type about:preferences#general<enter> in the address bar.
There are two settings;
- When Firefox Starts
When the browser is started, what do you want to display? Many of us choose Show My Home Page.
- Home Page
When a new page is opened, what do you want to be displayed?
- Use Current Page. Use what ever page(s) are open at that time.
- Use Bookmark
- Restore To Default. about:home shows a Mozilla home page with tools.
You can use any of these that you wish;
about:home (Firefox default home page), about:newtab (shows the sites most visited), about:blank (a blank page),
or you can enter any webpage or about: page you want.

I've seen this same reply in response to a similar question but your answer is not applicable in this situation. Also, your info seems outdated.
There is currently no way to specify a startup page that differs from the home page unless you want the startup page to "restore previous session".
I don't want the startup page to restore previous session. I want the startup page to be blank. The home page should be Yahoo.
Hi, not possible to have both of those in the same Tab. You can have the Home Page open and a 2nd Tab open blank by adding a vertical line [ | } at end of Home Page URL and then put about:blank
or you can use this and have what ever you want : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/

Thanks! That did it. I had it working and then I "refreshed" because an extension was glitching and couldn't figure out how to get it back. Now I only see Yahoo when I click the home icon and not on start up or new windows. Which is exactly how I want it.
