Horizontal scrolling & zooming via mousewheel tilt does not work in Firefox 57.0.1, but works in EE and other browsers

Previous versions of Firefox supported horizontal scrolling when used with a scrollwheel mouse that supported tilt. However, I've been unable to get it to work on Firefox 57.0.1. I read somewhere that FF decided to no longer support this feature, but not sure if this is true. Meanwhile, on Chrome and EE, I can scroll left/right and zoom, using the scroll wheel on my Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical mouse.

It is truly a sad day when something works as it should in EE and Chrome, but not in Firefox. Please help, or I may have to pledge my allegiance elsewhere.

Thank you

What is EE?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

A typo. IE not EE

I am currently responding to you in safemode, and I am still unable to use the scroll left/right, zoom in/out function of my awesome mouse, which -again- works with other browsers

In case your next suggestion would be to try "Refreshing Firefox," I tried that as well, to no avail. Please help!!

Make sure the mouse software is up-to-date. Also, post your problem on its support site.

My mouse drivers are up-to-date.

As an Application Engineer, I am scratching my head trying to figure out how you came to the conclusion that it could possibly be a mouse issue, especially after I mentioned (twice) that this issue is isolated to Firefox alone.

Also, you have failed to confirm or deny my findings, so I will ask again. Is it true that Firefox no longer supports this?

Up to date but does it show up in FF? There is a big difference here. And does it load Addons for the mouse on FF? Also What mouse and software version?

What kind of question is "Up to date but does it show up in FF?" Your predecessor asked me if my mouse drivers were up to date and i responded YES.

If you read my original post you will see that the question you asked has already been answered, but i will post it here again. My mouse is a Logitech LX5 Cordless Optical mouse.

And it does NOT load any Addons to FF.

I cannot figure out if you're deliberately ignoring the fact that i have told you 3 times, the mouse zoom, scroll left/right features work in IE and Chrome, but not in FF. But you still insist that it is a mouse issue?!?

One step is to be sure all programs are up to date

Is it true that Firefox no longer supports this?

Mozilla stopped support on so many things, I don't know. I called for more help.

You "called for more help" and what did you find out please?? Its been a few days.

I wish I payed more attention to when exactly this feature stopped working with FF, so I could go back to the last version that it last worked in. I only took notice a few months ago

I called again

Is shift + scroll working?

(ctrl + scroll for zooming in/out)

Thanks TyDraniu . But your workaround only works for zooming in/out. It does not work for horizontal scrolling.

Again, both zooming in/out AND horizontal scrolling work in IE and Chrome - two browsers i HATE. And in those browsers, I DO NOT need to hit the ctrl button. I just use the functionality of the mouse.

I do know older Logitech software were legacy and got disabled in FF56.

========

Hmmm, I think 'WestEnd' may have just found the root cause of the issue, as my Logitech latest software version is dated 2015. I called Logitech and they said to buy a newer version of mouse and keyboard and the horizontal scroll, zoom in/out feature will work with the latest version of FF.

But, I REFUSE to waste money on new hardware, especially since (as mentioned multiple times) these features still work using other browsers like IE and Chrome.

VERDICT

I'm not sure why Firefox was 1st to STOP supporting these features. So for now, I will move to a different browser, until that browser also stops the support of older Logitech hardware.

Thank you for you time guys. You can mark this one as CLOSED
