Error messages after upgrade to Thunderbird 38.7.2
Hi, After an automatic upgrade to Thunderbird 38.7.2 yesterday I get several error messages when trying to send e-mails.
The first in Swedish is "Det finns inte tillräckligt med diskutrymme för att hämta nya meddelanden. Försök att ta bort gamla meddelande, tömma papperskorgen och komprimera dina mappar. Försök igen." My translate to english is something like "There is not enough disk space to receive new messages. Try to delete old messages, empty the trash and compress your folders. Try again". But the sent folder is empty already. And there are enough space available. And there is no problem to receive new e-mails.
The second error message in Swedish is "Ett fel uppstod vid sparande av meddelande till Skickat. Försöka igen?" In english "An error occurred when saving message to Sent. Try again?" and then a Yes/no box. Clicking Yes displays the error message again. And the sent e-mail is not shown in the Sent folder. However the e-mail is sent and reaches the receiver.
The first time after the upgrade I was also asked to confirm my passwords to the outgoing server.
I've used Thunderbird for a couple of years and never had these problems before. Not even yesterday before the upgrade. I'm running Windows 10. Grateful for any help. /Goforit

After spending a couple of hours trying to solve the problem and reading other threads about similar problems I'd start to compare the Thunderbird profile folders in my AppData. For some reason the folder "Sent.mozmsgs" was missing in the account with the problem. Therefore I created one manually. In the working profiles (other accounts) there also was two files named "Sent". One with the extension .msf and one with no extension. In the profile with the problem the one without extension was missing. I created it by changing name of another file named "Skickat" (which is Sent translated to Swedish...) and restarted Thunderbird. And then It works...!
My conclusion (that I don't exactly can put my finger on) is that there is some kind of bug when Thunderbird tries to create a new "Sent" folder and mixes it up with different filenames, using one in the user prefered language.. Should the suspected bug be reported somewhere? //Goforit

Check on Folder size: 'View' > 'Layout' > select 'Folder Pane Columns' OR 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Layout' > select 'Folder Pane Columns'
Then select the 'Size' column, so it displays in the Folder Pane. See image as help.
If 'Sent' is empty - has no visible nor hidden marked as deleted emails, then there will be no size. If there is a size then do as error message suggests. Right click on 'Sent' folder and select 'Compact'.
Whenever you delete emails they are 'marked as deleted' and hidden from view, compacting folders fully removes them.
Confirm the account is using the correct Sent folder. If IMAP, make sure server 'Sent' folder is subscribed.
- Right click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select: 'Settings'
- select 'Copies & Folders' for the mail account
- Select: 'Place a copy in'
If POP :
- select: ' "Sent" folder on:' mail account name
If IMAP:
- Select: 'Other' and select the Sent folder on the imap mail account.
- click on OK
Did enabling the 'Size' column show 'Sent' having a size ?
Did compacting that folder reduce size?
Are the settings in Account Settings > Copies & Folders correct?
Is this a POP or IMAP mail account 'Sent' folder?
Modified
Hi, and very much thank you for your answer.

No size in the "Sent" column. The settings in the Account settings seems correct (not changed). It's a POP3 account. //Goforit
