I keep getting Adware Add-Ons mysteriously installing themselves, such as Groupon, or MyCoupon sort of thing. As you can imagine this can be most irritating. Is there some way of disabling Add-Ons from installing without having to go through a Manual Install Approval process? Even if this required installing a new Plugin to do this, that would be helpful.

Firefox 40 will require that all extensions be "signed" by Mozilla, to be installed in any manner - including manually from your own hard drive. https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2015/02/10/extension-signing-safer-experience/

There will be no way to get around that with the Release and Beta versions of Firefox. The Developer Edition (aka Aurora) and the Nightly alpha channel versions won't be subject to this "signing".
