Install process for Firefox 25 asks for Administrator password. I have never been asked for this before when installing any other program. Suspect virus/malware

I have Firefox 24 installed on Windows 7 Home Pro laptop. Checking for updates on Firefox 24 Help gives me "None Available"

Downloaded Firefox 25.0.1 setup and after extraction occurs, got a message in a dialog box. There is no identification on the box as to its source, not Mozilla, Firefox, Windows, or any other security program. The full text of the message says:

"You may not have the necessary permissions to use all the features of the program you are about to run. You may run the program as a different user or continue to run the program as the current user.

___ Currebt User ___ Run the program as the following user:

User Name: Administrator Password: _______________

OK Cancel"

There is an entry type box after "Password:" to fill in the Administrator password.

Please advise if this is malware or phishing scam attached to your setup program.

Thanks

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.

  • Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
