I set up a few filters to automatically move some of my more common junk mails straight to the deleted folder, and these work fine when I run the filters manually, but when getting new mail they always stay in the junk folder.

filters run on the inbox and on sending on the sent folder. Mail in the junk folder will never be affected by a filter.

That's a shame, is there any way to change this behaviour?

There is the filtaquilla add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/filtaquilla/ more information on it here http://mesquilla.com/extensions/filtaquilla/

I'm a bit weary about using add-ons with my e-mail. Thanks for your help though! :)

I am new to using Thunderbird but I have noticed that when you are setting up Filter Rules you have the option of applying the filter when getting new mail either 'Before' or 'After' Junk Classification.

Have you tried that?

Me too same problems and better avoid add-on on emails!

It has started to happen since [possibly] 1 or 2 versions before 52.9.1 I am now [on WIN7].

This is thunderbird creating it - same with add-ons off.

SInce I have leads of aliases, it is a blooping mess or numerous popups - it works manually!
