I've gone to firefox help to try and fix your connection is not secure. My antivirus is McAfee and not any of those listed in article, so I don't know how to fix my problem. I'm not computer saavy either and afraid to do anything without having step by step instructions. I use internet explorer as browser also and do not have this problem. I usually log in with firefox browser and get to my site that I type in. It's when there is another link and I click, I sometimes get the message that my connection is not secure, but when I use my internet explorer browser, there's no problem. That is basically how I've gotten around the problem, but I'm getting tired of doing that. Doesn't McAfee software take care of any malware on my computer? I am not computer saavy and would appreciate any help. Thank you

I don't remember where I was at that I got the error message, Your Connection is not secure. Like I said I've gone to Mozilla Support and looked up Your connection is not secure and I just don't understand what to do from the instructions given. It mentions antivirus software Avast, Bitdefender,Bullguard,ESET, Kaspersky, all of which I do not have, I have McAfee antivirus software. When I clicked a hyperlink, I sometimes get this message "Your Connection is not secure" and I just use my internet explorer browser and click the hyperlink and get to the site with no problems and that's how I've been getting around this issue. I'm just tired of doing this and if I can fix this problem I will, but the instructions given in Mozilla Support do not help me at all. Your reply to me to copy the text to clipboard and pasting into the reply is just a little challenging for me, I would have to do research just to figure out how to do that! Sorry, but I guess I'm too computer eliterate.

This is the error message for this issue. It only happens to me when I try to get to youtube. BTW, I do not have any antivirus software installed as listed on the help forums and topics.

Your connection is not secure

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox may only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.

You can open the Certificate Manager and go to the "Servers" tab to see if that shows the certificate chain.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates: View Certificates -> Servers: "Add Exception"
  • paste the URL of the website (https://xxx.xxx) in it's location field.

Let Firefox retrieve the certificate -> "Get Certificate"

  • click the "View" button and inspect the certificate

You can see detail like the issuer of the certificate and intermediate certificates in the Details tab.

This did not work, for it still gives the exact same error message and blocks me from going to youtube.

Try to edit SiteSecurityServiceState.txt and remove references to the youtube website (domain).

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Hi Hesta, both philipp and cor-el are asking you to provide some additional information about the certificate that Firefox doesn't trust. This is not intended to be an immediate solution, it is to gather information so support volunteers can identify the source of the problem (usually a "man in the middle" intercepting your browsing).

Since this only affects YouTube, I wonder whether you installed any software that is meant to record or download videos, which might have set itself up to intercept connections to YouTube. Can you think of any programs like that?

    I haven't installed anything new at all since I moved from my old place. I had no issues with it at the old place either, just since I have been at the new place. I even called my ISP and they couldn't figure it out either. I am at work right now, but will provide a screen shot when I can after work.

What do you see if you click the blue SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER text on the error page?

Does that show a certificate chain (-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----)?

Did you try to inspect the certificate via the Servers tab?
