Recently, I've been having issues with my Mozilla products, Firefox and Thunderbird, where the scroll will not work on my touchpad (Dell Studio XPS 1640, Win7 x64). I can scroll in Windows Explorer and other applications, however not in any Mozilla software.

I have reinstalled my driver as well as Dell's touchpad application, ensured that the mouse is set to scroll even though it works within Windows and other applications. Tried in safe mode with no luck as well.

Other multitouch functions such as zoom does not work.

  • Edit

Scrolling will work for less than a second once a page is loaded and will scroll one line before it ceases to function

  • Edit 2

Discovered that the touchpad will zoom when "scrolled" using the left side. This isn't an option with my touchpad software..

  • Edit 3

Checked values and ensured settings of:
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true(Also tried false)
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 1
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0

  • Edit 4

Caret browsing on/off with no luck

Does scrolling work if you attach a mouse instead of using the scroll pad?

I do not have an external mouse to use at this time. But regardless, the whole issues is, it worked before. It couldn't be a new problem with my driver since the driver software wasn't changed when the issue rose its head. It never became an issue until right around the time I updated. It would have to be a way that firefox initiates and maintains communication with my driver

You say this problem started after a Firefox update. Exactly which version of Firefox did you update from to 3.6.13?

Does Dell specify that their mouse pad drivers work specifically with Firefox 3.6.x versions? Did you reinstall the drivers that came with your laptop, or did you install the latest drivers that are available from Dell?

I can't quite recall what version of Firefox I updated from.

Dell does not list firefox, or any third-party software not marketed by them for that matter, as a supported browser with any of their products from my knowledge (Prior Dell FST).

I reinstalled the drivers first, next updated from Dell, next updated from Synaptics.

I have the same problem in Firefox and Thunderbird. Scrolling works sometimes but mostly not. I am running Windows Vista business 64 bit on a Lenovo W700 laptop with a second screen on a Dell monitor.

Changing some settings such at about:config mousewheel.withnokey.numlines to 1 fixes it temporarily but it doesn't stick. Often, but not always, if I have a MS Excel spreadsheet displayed on the second monitor, when I try to scroll in Thunderbird or Firefox, the Excel spreadsheet will scroll instead as if that was selected as the active window despite the fact that my cursor is located over the Mozilla application and I have clicked in the Mozilla window.

Changing monitor settings or when first starting the computer and running only Thunderbird or Firefox, scrolling will work but again, only temporarily. Once other apps are started, the scrolling fails to work. I've tried most of the suggestions posted but nothing seems to work permanently.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because now I'm just trying to avoid using these apps but that's not really a solution.

Tryed a lot of things, sometimes restarting your computer/laptop will do the job. Worked for me =)
