Operating System Ubuntu 20.04.4LTS on AMD® Ryzen 3 pro 3200g 64bit processor. Firefox Web Browser version 100.0.2 (64-bit)

The method I can reproduce sound distortion:

I have clear sound playback through both system HDMI speakers or if earphones are plugged in, verified using the Ubuntu Sound Output test left/right (without distortion)

Then if I open a normal Firefox window and listen to YouTube video for example I have no distortion, if I however open I private window, say to access training material on Microchip University site I suddenly have distorted playback.

Please advise why private window opened suddenly distorts my output sound. Sound suspicious.

Try downloading another copy of Firefox, run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Shall I keep the Firefox installed from Ubuntu Software which is the version 100.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1?

I still need to figure out how to "run it from the folder" suggested. Is there a good link explaining this method?

I downloaded the firefox-100.0.2.tar.bz2 file and have verified the Software Requirements are met, I presume if the Ubuntu Software installed the version version 100.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 the required should be installed correctly.

"Please note that GNU/Linux distributors may provide packages for your distribution which have different requirements.

Firefox will not run at all without the following libraries or packages:
       glibc 2.17 or higher
       GTK+ 3.14 or higher
       libstdc++ 4.8.1 or higher
X.Org 1.0 or higher (1.7 or higher is recommended)
For optimal functionality, we recommend the following libraries or packages:
       DBus 1.0 or higher
       GNOME 2.16 or higher
       libxtst 1.2.3 or higher
       NetworkManager 0.7 or higher
       PulseAudio"

Confirmed via Ubuntu terminal and Synaptic Package manager.

From what you unzipped, run the file firefox.bin. You don't need to uninstall your distro version. It's good to have both or more for testing.

I upgraded Ubuntu 20.04.4LTS to 22.04 yesterday for testing Microchip software and noted the Firefox installed is version 99.0.1 (64-bit). Tested the sound issue and unable to reproduce, so will see if upgraded to v100 the sound issue returns and then try the suggested. Also going to test the Microchip software issues to verify if the upgrade to Ubuntu 22 kernel and Java resolved issues there..
