slowness caused by html select
upgrading past V52 causes websites with large number of select statements to freeze for long periods of time. I have tried the solutions described here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1166996 but they did not improve performance. Only downgrading to v52 seems to work. This problem does not appear in Chrome or Edge.

Hi, that was a archived answer/solution and please reverse that if you have applied that to about:config. There is another way to control that from Options --> Performance --> and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Note Hardware Acceleration is for your Video Card. Restart Firefox after making these changes please. Can try this :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-slow-how-make-it-faster
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-many-cpu-resources-how-fix
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-hangs-or-not-responding
and can try a refresh :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
then
If you have not got the emergency Win 7 patch released yesterday please make sure you do and reboot.
If this is a older system of 5yrs or more with little ram and never had motherboard updates maybe ver 52.7.3ESR would be best for you. It will continue to get security updates until June 2018, and you can download and install it from this page:
Note : Legacy Extensions will be deleted or removed in any version update after June 2018. Uses the Older Extensions until that date. Firefox 52.9.0esr out on June 26 (same time as 60.1.0esr) will be the last major update for Firefox 52 ESR apart from any 52.9.x esr updates for security or allowed stability fixes.
Firefox 60.2.0esr will be out Aug 21 and Firefox 52 ESR will be EOL then. So people will have to upgrade to 60.2.0esr to keep getting security updates if they have not manually upgraded to 60.x.o ESR already. Firefox 60 ESR will require Windows 7, 8, 10. You should make a backup of your Profile before going back and just because:

You should optimize Win 7

As send info to Mozilla is turned off within Firefox I have no data on your Extensions or Video Card Drivers.
I would suggest updating or reinstall them and extensions/add-ons take approx 20megs each to run so disable what you do not use daily.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
Honestly I am not sure what you are suggesting i do. I tried the options - performance uncheck everything but it didn't solve the problem. I then looked through most of those articles and they aren't even focused on the issue. I only have a problem with select drop down menus. And that problem only exist in newer versions of firefox. I could do a webex if someone was interested. If not if you can suggest something that is focused on my problem that would be great. Thanks for the help.
Yes, it is a known performance issue, for instance https://bugzil.la/1118086
So does that mean there is no solution?

At this time. Notice 1600+ If using that many stop and use less and should not have the issue until patched. You can find that out from Help--> About --> What's New in each update.
I appreciate your attempt at answering but I don't understand what you are saying. What does this mean: " If using that many stop and use less and should not have the issue until patched"
