If you're running Windows (you didn't say), you can stop SPAM with this free program: Mailwasher Free It marks SPAM with a red filter and allows you to delete it straight off your ISP's email server without the need to download it to your own PC first.

To block tracking cookies, install these two add-ons: Cookie Monster and Better Privacy

1. Spam is generally associated with e-mail. If your problem is with e-mail spam and you are using Firefox to access your web e-mail account, contact your e-mail provider (i.e., gmail, hotmail, etc.) or post in their forum and inquire about their spam filter options and how to use that feature.
2. This is a good extension for Firefox that stops most tracking cookies (works great for me):
   • Ghostery: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ghostery/
     1. Install it, then restart Firefox (you should be taken to a Ghostery wizard to set your options. You can also use the manual steps below to check your settings and after updates check the 2 boxes below "Bugs" and "Cookies")
     2. Locate the "ghost" icon on the Status Bar and click on it
     3. In the pop-up, click "Update bug list" (you can update manually or automatically, if you choose that option in the "Options" below)
     4. Click the "ghost" icon again and click "Options"
     5. In the options tab, check the options you want (especially in the blocking options, check all of the following: Enable web bug blocking, Enable cookie protection, the first box under Bugs, and the first box under Cookies)
     6. Click Save at the bottom of the options page.

I'm sorry but I'm sort of computer illiterate and older than dirt. I do have Windows and thought I could either use the Tools bar or Control panel. I do appreciate your help. Thanks

@ Helper7677, just a personal opinion, but I wouldn't recommend Ghostery to anyone because it's owned by a company called "Better Advertising". That company will use the data to improve ways of feeding users ads.
