I cannot send or forward emails with images in the body of the message

I am using Thunderbird 52.4.0 (32 bit), on Win XP SP-3. I use the FireFox browser as well.

When I try to send an email, when I have "Inserted" an image file from my own computer, I cannot send that email, until I remove the image. I cannot forward any email that includes an image. I just get a "Loading images..." message in the lower, left footer bar, with no other error messages. The first time I attempt to send the email with the image, the "Loading images..." message eventually goes away and the "Send" button reappears, but the email does not get sent. If I try to resend the same email after the initial "Loading images..." goes away, the "Loading images..." message comes up again, but never goes away, nor is the email sent. Then, I cannot stop the "loading images" OR do anything but delete the email.

I can send & receive text emails, no problem.

I am assuming that this may be a setting(s) or configuration problem, OR possibly a horrendous glitch in Thunderbird, rendering it useless to me or anyone else, for that matter. I have looked all over the internet for a fix, for hours, without any solution.

I would characterize my computer experience level as, "Experienced, General Home User".

Thank you in advance.

What method or process do you use to insert images? Drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste, Insert|Image in the menu, or the Attach toolbar button?

If either of the last two, are you setting the checkbox in the image properties to include the image file with the message?

I use the Insert|Image from the the "Insert Link" icon, in the toolbar, just above the compose email area.

If you mean the, "Attach this image to the message", checkbox, yes, I do. In fact, when I select the image file from my computer, it automatically puts a check in that box.

I may not be much help, but I'll try while I continue my hunt for answers to my own dilemma - but hope a more experienced person has an answer for you. I will ask the most obvious question - just how big are the images? Without thinking. I tried to attach two images each with a file size of 52 megs - and were Adobe Photoshop's own type - .PSD. It would choke any email program. Have you attempted to zip and email attach that? Is the email host a webmail host, i.e. Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook or real email?

Also, in Tools > Options > Attachments > Outgoing do you have a setting in that which could relate to your image attachments? i.e., are you attaching a image from one of those online file storage tanks? And is the default "Offer to share...." set to 5?

Under Tools > Options > Advanced > Network & Disk Space, are they OK?

I realize you are probably aware of these as you are experienced but - process of elimination :)

As much as I also hate hearing it, for there is no sane reason for it, but most places have already turned their backs on XP and Vista users - with many developers not telling anyone the updates are just for 7, 8, and 10 (Microsoft lost Windows 9). XP and Vista users don't have much choice but to spend - again.

I loaded up my XP box and was unable to repeat your issue - even after trying a 50 meg file, and of course it choked. XP and Vista offer much better security and privacy than 7 and up - but that seemed to be the intent.

I apologize if my repsonse brought you back an doesn't help,

O

THANKS, Outernaught!

I checked my settings, as per your suggestions, and the only one I didn't understand was the, "...is the default "Offer to share...." set to 5?". I don't even understand what that means, so should it be set to 5 or...?

I am very new to Thunderbird, coming from Outlook Express, which I LOVE, however, it's gotten too old, (like me). This is a new install for me.

Anyway, I'm adding the image files from my own computer, although I cannot forward any images from emails forwarded to me, either.

No, no webmail host, it's Thunderbird doing this itself, it just keeps trying to "load images", even when the image is just 790kb.

No, I have not tried to zip and send. That seems like it would be a real; PITA. I had absolutely no problem like this with OE.

The, "Tools > Options > Advanced > Network & Disk Space", are OK. In fact, I had already increased the cache to 350mb, way prior to having this problem. This is a new install, I'm really just learning my way around it.

Yep, the "powers that be" have really been looking down their noses at us old-time, XP users. I just HATE to have to install and learn another new system, in fact, I'm seriously thinking about saying the heck with it and loading Linux Mint, if I'm forced to change...

You have been a GREAT help, my friend, absolutely no reason to apologize! Two heads are ALWAYS better than one! Thanks a MILLION, for ANY help that you offer!
