OS re-installed, lost firefox and setting. I have no backup of book marks. Tried copying places.sqlite from a system restore from 12/19/2014 which is 80k in size while firefox is down. after firefox is brought backup, 80k places.sqlite gone, replaced by 10k size version.

Chosen solution

Note that the places.sqlite file has fixed file sizes and is increased in 10 MB chunks.

Also make sure to remove any SQLite temp files places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal when present.

Yes, I shut down firefox, copy the old places.sqlite file of 81,920 kb, bring up firefox. After firefox comes backup the places.sqlite size changes to 10,240 kb and then a places.sqlite.corrupt file of 1,151 kb appears in the folder.
