Firefox will not open PDF in Preview as it is set in Preferences

Preferences>Applications>Content Type: Portable Document Format (PDF) ... Action: Use Preview (default) OR Action: Preview in Firefox OR Action: Always Ask

Same result: Dialog box which says: "You have chosen to open (filename) ... Which is: (file type) ... From: (URL) Would you like to save this file?" Options are Save File OR Cancel. There is no way to actually open the file without saving it first. I do not want to save the file.

Chosen solution

Delete the mimetypes.rdf file in the profile folder with firefox closed, see below for finding the profile, then open FF again and change the options in the application menu.
