9.01 on Mac OS X Lion... nav buttons (back, fwd, home) went from black for content available to a dark shade of grey... why... this is confusing...?

Just upgraded to 9.01. Nav buttons (back, fwd, home) used to be a sharp black to indicate content available; light grey for no content available. This version went to two shades of grey... dark shade for content available, light grey for no content. Why..? This is confusing as it is hard to differentiate..!!
