Why does FF accumulate such a HUGE chunk of memory!?

This is getting ridiculous, and has been going on since v4 that I can tell. However, each newer version seems to use more and more and more and more and more memory. v10 is now good for gobbling up to 1.4gb before I shut it down... not 1.4mb, 1.4GB! In addition, when it gets that bloated the speed is dramatically reduced.

Hi skier150,

Have you looked at our performance troubleshooting section? There is a lot of good information in there that should help. There is some information in there specifically about high memory usage that you might find useful.

Hopefully this helps!

Yes, I have looked it over and it did not help much. The largest I have seen lately has been over 1.9gb.

v11 seems to be hovering around 1gb instead of 2gb at the moment, so at least it is heading in the right direction... but 1gb is still off the chart ridiculous!

Try updating Firefox to version 11, there are several improvements to memory usage (plus security fixes) that may help you.

When you try running Firefox in Safe Mode, do you get any difference in Memory usage?

11 is better, but not great. where as 10 would max out around 2gb or so, I have only seen 11 hit 1.4gb. still needs more work, but at least heading in the right direction...

Well, with Firefox 13 I believe there are some pretty decent memory improvements coming down the pipe.

Also, did safe mode help at all?

I have not been able to try the safe mode yet. I am concerned that I will loose my pinned and open windows when I do.
