Is there some kind of extension or add-on or plug-in that I need to see videos on yahoo news?
I can't see any news or sports videos on Yahoo. They can't help. I can see vids on YouTube just fine, but not on Yahoo. What do i need in order to see news on Yahoo?

Right click the video and then click Settings. In the panel which appears, uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration". See screenshot.
If that doesn't work, do the following. Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons | Plugins and disable "Yahoo ActiveX plugin".
I noticed you have Foxit Reader installed. Did you opt-out of the Ask Toolbar installation option when you installed it? If not, go to Add-ons | Extensions and remove "Ask Toolbar". There are compatibility problems between the Ask Toolbar and Firefox which can affect performance. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions
When I rt click on the square where the video should be but isn't I click on settings and nothing happens. Below settings is "global settings" and none of those options are what you have suggested.
Also, I cannot find Active X using the directions you have offered. I click on "Tools" and hunt all the available tabs looking for Active X but it is not there.
I do appreciate your help, but your suggestions do not apply to what I am seeing.
The Yahoo ActiveX control is not on your Tools menu, it is in the Add-ons, then Plugins manager.
I have disabled "Yahoo ActiveX plugin. I do not have an Ask Yahoo tool bar. I use Ask a lot but it is a shortcut on my desktop.
I just tried to view a video and still not show.
If you go to the Global Settings Manager at Flash Player Settings Panel are the two bottom options checkmarked?
No. (the tab is labeled "Storage"
Could you do the following please.
- In the location bar, type about:config and hit Enter.
- In the filter at the top, type: keyword.URL
- Right click the entry and choose "Copy Value".
- Close the tab and then come back to your thread here, right click and choose "Paste" from the menu.
By the way, please checkmark both options in the Global Storage Manager. See screenshot.
As far as the Setting Mgr is concerned I don't think we're on the same page. Yours looks way different than mine.
Now I will do the other thing you asked for..
I just discovered that I do not have Flash Player installed. I just tried to DL it from Adobe and I keep getting an error message.
Please download these two files. Both links are direct downloads and look like the ones you see in the screenshot.
- uninstall_flash_player.exe
- install_flash_player.exe
- After the download completes, close Firefox.
- Next, run the Flash player uninstaller to remove it from your system. It is installed there somewhere because if it wasn't, you wouldn't be able to view youtube videos.
- Next, reboot. This step is necessary to remove the registery entries.
- After the system reboots to the desktop, run the Flash installer, but do not open Firefox first.
Finally, restart Firefox and try and view yahoo videos again.
I followed your instructions to the letter and still no video on Yahoo. In the area where the video should be, there is nothing. I rt. clicked that and saw a menu that included "Settings" and "Global Settings". I clicked Settings and nothing happened. I clicked Global Settings and up came the same box that I sent you. This is bad.
Can you download the free version of Malwarebytes from http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free and run a full system scan to eliminate malware as the culprit as is often the case.
OK. I will do that.
I am also corresponding with Yahoo over this issue. They haven't a clue, nor have they offered any suggestions as you have. BTW...I am grateful for your help. A few questions popped up:
Why would the Flash player work just fine in YouTube but not in Yahoo!?
What does YouTube know that Yahoo! doesn't? Why does Chrome show videos but Firefox does not?
I would gladly switch to Chrome if they had a TOOLBAR. I rely heavily on the Yahoo Toolbar in Firefox. It has become a valuable asset to my use of the internet.
Chrome doesn't have one.
Now to run a full scan with MalwareBytes.
Thanks.
The Flash player on Chrome is embedded whereas the Firefox version is a plugin.
For me it works in both Yahoo and Youtube.
I ran Malwarebytes and it didn't find anything.
But I ran my Virus checker AVAST and it came up with this (see screen shot)
I don't understand it.
BTW...I have a normal C drive and I have two external drives. I have two other internal drives that are intermittent sometimes they show up and sometimes they don't
Also Firefox has been running very, very slow. for the past two weeks. I thought it was my internet provider who says I have 2 mg but I really only have 1.4
Changed it yesterday and now I'm faster but FF is still slow. What can it be?# Numbered list item
Re: the "decompression bomb", see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=41289.0
Can you play the stage videos here? http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/stagevideo.html The Big Buck Bunny may stutter occasionally, but you should be able to see the player.
Could also please go to the Global Settings Panel @ http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager02.html and check all your settings. It's a direct link to your Flash installation. Please read the help files because they may be relevant to your problem.
So I just ignore the decompressionbomb?
Could not see the bunny, all I got was a black screen.
You said to "Check" the Global settings. There were no boxes to check.
If you meant look em over...I did but it meant nothing to me as I do not have a camera or a mike connected to my machine.
I would be apt to delete it if I were you. Personally, I would never open a file I couldn't scan for viruses first.
If you couldn't see the stage video, then there would appear to be a problem with your Flash installation.
I think the best idea now is for you to go to the Adobe support forums and let them try and sort if out for you. They're more aware of what kind of issues affect their own products than what we do here. You'll find links to all of them here: http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
You can give them the link to your thread here so that they don't have you repeating steps we've already covered.
