i have the cursor appearing on web pages when i left-click, in places it wouldn't normally appear. this happened i think when i wiped my keypad and hit several keys at once. i don't know how to change it back and it's annoying because i can't use my arrow keys to scroll up and down the page properly now. also the home and end keys aren't working...

It sounds like you are in caret browsing mode. Press F7, that turns caret browsing mode on/off.

Brilliant! Thanks Tony, I was in caret browsing mode. I hadn't even heard of it before haha.. Thanks for helping me out with that little annoyance :)

In Firefox 3.6 and later versions you can disable the F7 shortcut that toggles caret browsing by setting the pref accessibility.browsewithcaret_shortcut.enabled to false on the about:config page if you do not want to use this feature.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.
