no history or bookmarks, tried everything
I've tried every solution already on this forum. I've gone from 1) never seeing any history or being able to save a bookmark, to 2) being able to save them and have history while the browser is open (they'd vanish when I'd close it), to 3) now history and bookmarks will stay if I close the browser, but as soon as my computer is turned off and on again, they are gone. So I guess there's progress being made, but I still would like to have a fully-functioning browser. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox several times, hoping that would fix it. Please help.

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.
[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.
Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.
You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.
When done, copy and post the results here.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
Thanks for your responses! I don't have Sync or Advanced SystemCare. This is what I got with Verify Integrity:

Did you check the link I posted?
This is what I got with Verify Integrity: > Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane . . . .
Good. No problems.
Yes, that link is one of the ones I had already tried when I said that I had tried solutions on the forum in my original post. I went through the entire thing, and I think that’s how I got to the slightly-better-than-starting point I’m at now. Glad we are narrowing it down though!
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
