starting yesterday when I click on Paypal's "create shipping label" link (Pitney Bowes) the usual page no longer comes up and the page that does is not usable. However if I use windows explorer instead it works fine (I've been using this same link through firefox for many years). Paypal insists it is nothing on their end. WHAT HAPPENED TO FIREFOX ??????

This is hard to answer without access to the site.

Do you know whether it requires any particular plugins? Your Java plugin is extremely out of date and might have become blocked. Typically in that case the gray plugin notification icon toward the left end of the address bar would turn red.

More generally:

(1) Try clearing Firefox's cache (temporary copies of files). See: How to clear the Firefox cache.

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

After this, does the page load more completely/correctly?

(2) Try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?
