I cannot restore previous session and tabs. When I use the Open Menu icon in the upper right and click History the option to restore previous session etc. is greyed out. If I open Tools, Options, General and click on When Firefox starts . . . , then select Show my windows and tabs from last time, and click OK, that does not stick.

Hi there,

It sounds like there may be a read/write issue with your Firefox profile, causing Firefox not to save settings. One thing you might want to try is Firefox Reset: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems. While it's perhaps solving more problems than needed in this case, it tends to be a quick way of getting back on track for weird issues like this.

Thanks!

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Browsing History

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

Thank you. Although following your advice did not solve the problem, when I opened Firefox an hour ago the problem seemed to have resolved sua sponte -- by itself! I have no idea why but hope it lasts.

Thanks again.
