Check boxes and selection tool/highlighter not working
I believe that my Firefox did an update recently and all of a sudden, I am not seeing the selection tool /highlighter work and check boxes are not functioning. It is just very very odd and difficult to use for making selections. I'm not able to use forms correctly ... need to guess where boxes may be .... but I am unable to see if they are checked or if an item I am normally able to select has been selected or not. Very strange. Please advise.

This could be a problem with High Contrast Mode on Mac. See "New" in the release notes. Firefox now automatically enables High Contrast Mode when "Increase Contrast" is checked on MacOS in the Accessibility settings.
Make sure you allow pages to choose their own colors.
- Settings -> General: Fonts & Colors -> Colors: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above"
Try "Never" if the default "Only with High Contrast themes" isn't working.
Note that Firefox 91.0.2 has been released that addresses this issue and sets "Override the colors
specified by the page with my selections above" by default to "Never".
Same problem. Clicking check boxes with in Settings pages. Nothing happens. Box does not show a check mark. Windows 10 Home. FF 91.0.2
MrSensible You are using Windows while this issue is with a Mac.

Issues with checkboxes can happen if you have set "browser.proton.enabled = false" on the about:config page to disable Proton.
In Firefox 91+ you can no longer disable Proton and revert changes that come with this design via "browser.proton.enabled = false" on the about:config page. Best in Firefox 91 is to set browser.proton.enabled at its default value true as the false setting can cause issues.
In Firefox 91+ you need to use code in userChrome.css to override changes coming with the Proton design.

Thanks cor-el, in the name of all Kryptonians.
Do Macs have the forced Proton designs embedded in the Firefox code as well? I have a small screen Acer Swift 5 laptop, and the expanded Proton design spacing in lists and other things reduces my productivity, and adds keystrokes and additonal scrolling, to navigate. Other than that, it's fine.
