T-Bird Slow as Molassas retrieving and sending email messages (3 gmail, 1 outlook, 1 yahoo) CAUSE: unknown (but gone)
Thunderbird Ver. 45.5.1 takes forever to retrieve and send email messages, on my Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit OS running Windows Defender. This, and all my other PC are constantly updated via Windows Updater, and Driver Updater Pro. This issue had begun approximately a month ago, even on my one computer running Windows 8.1. I've read if certain files are excluded from being scanned by Windows Defender, the issue is resolved. Is this likely my problem, and if so, which file(s)/folder(s) should I exclude. If Thunderbird extinct, please recommend a suitable replacement that supports saving emails to Windows Explorer Folders, such as T-Bird.

Regarding your question, ALL my Yahoo, Gmail, and Outlook accounts were running slow at the same rate.

You should exclude the profile folder from being scanned. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird

Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled. - Win10 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Still in Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in safe mode. - https://support.mozilla.org/kb/safe-mode

Anti-virus software gets disabled in Windows safe mode, so it can't be the culprit in your case.
Can you post your Troubleshooting Information?
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button 
, then select Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Press the Copy text to clipboard button and paste the information into your reply.
Did the slowness start out of the blue, or did it increase slowly over time?

I'd say the slowness had begun as if their server had suddenly become overburdened.
