Firefox crashes at start up. I have used Firefox for several years and this issue just began happening. I am able to use Internet Explorer but prefer Firefox.

Have you tried running it from the command line in safe mode. Just add "-safe-mode" to the end.

I'm on Win 7 C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -safe-mode

That is an out-of-memory crashes where all available memory is used up.

Can you start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift/Options key?

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox if that works.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
