Filters deleted, but still working

I created a filter to direct incoming messages to a particular folder. I have deleted the filter, but the incoming messages still are coming into that folder, instead of straight to the inbox. I have tried closing and re-starting Thunderbird (latest version), but still not working.

is it an imap account with a filter on the server perhaps?

Nope. Pop account; set up the filters myself in the app.
