I have been forced to change my Hotmail password following a breakdown in service by Microsoft. This change was done ON the Hotmail (Outlook.com) site. When normal service had resumed, on starting TB, I was prompted to enter my password.

This now happens everytime I start TB (which never used to happen) and I would appreciate if someone could tell me how I may stop this.

Thank you,

Ian

First open tools/options/security/passwords and saved passwords find your old account and its password delete both smtp and pop3

next time you login remember to check the save box when asked for password

Hi Gnospen --- I've had a look in the "saved passwords" but for some reason only the smtp address is showing for the account in question. (It is not an "old" account by the way, it is still current.) I have altered the "saved password" smtp address password to that of the new one, but I am still being prompted for a password for the address shown on the attached image.

Usually that prompt for the password has a checkbox that tells it to "remember" the password - that is, store it in the password manager. I suspect a setting to show this checkbox has been cleared but I'd need to do some research to find how to reverse it.

Hi Zenos That would be sensible - if there were a "remember" pasword but, as you can clearly see, none exists. I really appreciate your doing your research to reverse it.

Is there any significance in the fact there is only an smtp address showing in the "saved password" section do you think?

Thank you,

Ian

I haven't found a likely looking entry in my Config Editor yet. But if its default value is true ("ask the user") then I wouldn't necessarily have an entry. You may well have one that is user-set (i.e. not default) and therefore "false" but it's going to be hard to track down what you have and I don't.

As to the smtp...

How many accounts do you have? Are they all with your ISP? If so, then you may well need only one smtp setting. If you have accounts with gmail, hotmail/outlook, aol, yahoo then I'd expect at least one smtp for each and every of these accounts.

OTOH, if it has been told not to store passwords, then your password store could well be empty, quite legitimately. The question might be why it has any at all!

There's an article here that covers the no checkbox situation:
