You need to add a lowercase .json: bookmarks-2014-02-15.json

Make sure that the bookmarks backup file has the correct (lowercase) file extension:
- .html for a HTML backup
- .json for a JSON backup
You can check the file type via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "Firefox > New Tab > Open File" or "File > Open File".
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup shows as a web page with clickable links.
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded": An HTML backup starts with: <!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1>
Verify the file type in the Properties via the right-click context menu to make sure that the change has been successful.
Idid right click on file clicked open with Firefox at the top it did start with Title but even no that I confirmed they file type I still can't restore it it says unsupported file type
You did trey to restore the file as a JSON backup?
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore > Choose File
- http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
Do you see the correct file name when you open the file in a Firefox tab (Firefox/File > New Ta > Open File)?
I just clicked on backup when I saved my bookmarks didn't what file it saved it as as we confirmed before it is a json file I know how to go to the bookmarks to restore I just come up Unsupported file type how to restore a file if is says unsupported
this is a copy of some of what shows up when I open the file with Firefox {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":1386042577279000,"lastModified":1386042617657000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"placesRoot","children":[{"title":"Bookmarks Menu","id":2,"parent":1,"dateAdded":1386042577279000,"lastModified":1390175266783000,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"bookmarksMenuFolder","children":[{"title":"Recently Bookmarked","id":24,"parent":2,"annos":
just a few lines from the top
First, please make sure Windows is set to show all file extensions, including .js, .json, and others. This should avoid confusion and possible problems renaming files. This Microsoft support article has the steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219.
Once you can see all file extensions:
Second, when you used the Backup feature, you may have created your own file name omitting the .json file extension. Right-click the file, choose Rename, and add .json to the end. Then try the Restore again.
That is a JSON backup.
What is the file name that you see on the location bar and in the file picker if you open the file in Firefox?
You can try to re-save the file in Firefox if the file extension isn't .json
this is what showed up I just added a 1 at end bookmarks-2014-02-15 1
so this is what was in the name file bar bookmarks-2014-02-15 when I went to save
so this would be how I rename it right bookmarks-2014-02-15 JSON

I the link you put in your message it has this
Start Windows Explorer, you can do this by opening up any folder. Click Organize. Click Folder and search options. Click the View tab. Scroll down until you notice Hide extensions for known file types, un-check this line by clicking the check box. Note To hide file name extensions, check this line. Click OK
how do I do this for windows 8 cuz when I click on a folder to be able to click on Organize it only has this a folders that say move to,copy to,delete, rename
the second one I don't see folder and search option
found the folder and search
Tahnkyou all got it wooohooo
for anyone else reading the Folder and Search is under the View to the far right to you have to click on Options to see it
