What is Liveshare and why has it appeared after the update to v15?

After updating to firefox 15 the icon for Trusteer Rapport disappeared from the address bar (I presume this is just a matter of waiting for an update from them) and was replaced by an icon for something called Liveshare - what is this and why is it there?

I have noticed problems reported after previous Firefox updates relating to Trusteer.

Often only temporary, and I believe IE usually works so you could try that on sites or actions requiring Trusteer.

Often the use of Trusteer is a requirement on some finance related sites, maybe Liveshare is something offered as an alternative, although the top ranked web search answer would suggest it relates to mobile messaging http://www.liveshare.com/

More information about what you are doing, or are unable to do because of the Trusteer problem may help, BUT please remember this is a public and google indexed forum do NOT post confidential / financial information

Yes, I have already noticed the previous reports of problems with Trusteer after previous firefox updates, but these seem to be just a matter of waiting for Rapport to issue an update (I have submitted a ticket to Trusteer just to confirm this and am waiting for a response - in the meantime I will use Chrome for anything sensitive as it is still working there)

What I wanted to know about Liveshare is are Firefox supporting/promoting it, does it watch you in any way, and can it be disabled as it does not appear in the extension/plug-in lists?

I nave now received the following response from Trusteer :-

"Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We are working on solving it and expect the problem to be fixed in a future release. We would be happy to notify you once a version with the fix is released.

Should you need additional assistance, feel free to contact us by submitting the following form: http://www.trusteer.com/support/submit-ticket We also have helpful information available in our FAQ: http://www.trusteer.com/support/faq"

So that just leaves the question regarding the appearance of the Liveshare icon!

Thanks for posting back.

if you do happen to notice info about this issue being fixed maybe you would post back with details of the release date and version, others may find the information useful.

Liveshare
As for the liiveshare icon that will again be third party software and nothing to do with Firefox. I imagine you inadvetantly downloaded it with some other software bundle. Firefox will not be promoting this. Firefox support is only so far as any other third party software being compatible with Firefox.

If you are trying to get rid of it and it is affecting Firefox please give any further info you can about what it is. Maybe include a screenshot and any web addresses associated with this. (We may be able to offer advice, or links to sites that will help)

I will post back when Trusteer notify me of the update.

The only thing I have downloaded recently was Audacity, and I did not see any reference to foistware during the installation, but Liveshare may have got in anyway. It seems this is a bookmarklet not an extension or plug in, and clicking on the icon opens a drop down inviting you to log-in or sign up, there is also a "learn more" link which goes to www.liveshare.com/bookmarklet. There, there are other links - "how it works", which leads to a blank page, "about", which says it is produced by Cooliris, "help", which gives an error 404 message, and "blog", which says URL does not exist - all in all something to stay away from, I think.

Regardless of how it got there (and I do not see it in Chrome, Opera or IE9), since it is a bookmarklet perhaps you could offer advice on how to remove it from Firefox?

I have now realised where Liveshare must have come from - I use the CoolPreviews extension (which I think is excellent) and this is also from Cooliris. It updated yesterday at the same time as I restarted Firefox for the v15 update, and this bookmarklet must have been included in the Coolpreviews update. I will now have to research whether it can be switched off or if I can safely ignore it (I have removed it from the toolbar using Customize).

Ordinarily bookmarklets are merely stored in your bookmarks library, and so may be deleted easily. However of course some downloaded software may be adding them back again.

Have you tried to find and delete the bookmarklet ?
if it is shown in the library as a bookmark it will have a star on the address bar that should allow you to quickly find it.

I've now got to the bottom of this, (and feel a little foolish for assuming this was down to Firefox before checking it out more thoroughly). The liveshare app comes bundled with the latest update to CoolPreviews and the only way to remove it is to uninstall the latest version and download the previous version again from Mozilla add-ons page. I don't think this is necessary as I have removed the Liveshare icon from view, want to keep CoolPreviews and it would only update again, I think, the next time I restarted Firefox. So, panic over and lesson learned - do a bit of research before you rush to ask for help (and make unfounded accusations)

Thanks for posting back.

Glad you have got to the bottom of this. Don't worry about asking; that is the purpose of this site, and some other Firefox user else may now find the information useful.

I have marked the thread as solved.
