I can't drag and drop images from firefox to explorer (desktop or any explorer window).
Before, I could always drag and drop images from firefox to the desktop, and now I can't! I've try without any module or to do a fresh installation, it doesn't change! I can still use right click save image as... But it's a very big loose of time for me!
When I try to drag and drop the image, when i reach the desktop, intead of a preview thumbnail of the image with the arrow of my mouse i have an interdiction sign as a cursor!
I have firefox 67.0b10 64bits, on windows 7 64bits install on a SSD!

Hmm, when I drag a JPEG from a page in Firefox 66 or Developer Edition to my Windows 10 desktop, it is dropped as a .jfif file. A PNG keeps its standard file extension. Either way, I don't notice any problem dropping it.
I'm not sure what is different on yours. Does it matter whether the image is displayed stand-alone in a tab vs. embedded in a page? Does it matter what format the file is or what file extension the image has?
Does it make a difference if you hold the Ctrl key while dragging?
I am having the exact same problem as the original poster.... , for about the last three versions not able to drag images from browser to desktop or anywhere... Currently, FF Developer Edition: 69.0b2 (64-bit)
I have tried:
Starting in safemode with no add-ons, No Joy! Tried holding Ctrl key, No Joy! Tried holding Alt key, No joy!
I have looked at the solution proposed here -> https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1209314
But come on, really, completely uninstall and reinstall.. this seems to be your answer for everything...
No thanks..It is not a small task for my setup.. I will loose stuff, I have been down this path before and it is a debacle. You all have files spread out all over the place, a genuine cluster..
Just would like it fixed. any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi You4eea, is it site-specific, or affects all sites, even this one?
Could you try:
New Profile Test
This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test dragging images.
Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.
Click the "Create a New Profile" button, then click Next. Assign a name like July2019, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.
After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Launch profile in new browser button.
Firefox should open a new window that looks like a brand new, uncustomized installation. (Your existing Firefox window(s) should not be affected.) Please ignore any tabs enticing you to connect to a Sync account or to activate extensions found on your system so we can get a clean test.
Does dragging images work any better in the new profile?
When you are done with the experiment, you can close the extra window without affecting your regular Firefox profile. (July2019 will remain available for future testing.)

After updating to v68 (x64) earlier today, drag and drop of pictures from Firefox to Windows desktop, stopped working for me too
What I tried so far
Tried turning it off and on again didn't work
Started firefox in safemode with no add-ons didn't work
Started windows in safe mode and then started firefox in safemode with no add-ons didn't work
Drag n Drop + holding Ctrl key didn't work Drag n Drop + holding Alt key didn't work
Created a new profile didn't work
Re-installed v68 didn't work
uninstalled and erased ALL firefox files, then installed v68 didn't work
Installed v68 on a fresh install of Windows didn't work
Installed a fresh copy of Windows on a freshly assembled computer and made a fresh installation of v68 Firefox didn't work
Is there something else I can do, in order to fix this problem, besides using Google Chrome

Hi Wag669, thank you for the comprehensive report.
What happens when dragging? For example, do you get the circle-slash mouse pointer even over the desktop? Or do you get the usual icon and the file never materializes after dropping?
Are you also on Windows 7 or is your issue on a different version?
Does it affect a plain JPEG viewed stand-alone in its own tab? For exmple: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ttw/jfs/n10/img/FloatMkt-RushHour-0619_md.jpg
Is the problem site-specific or does it affect all embedded images?
Experiencing the same problem. A new profile doesn't cut it. This happens when dragging any kind of image on any site, being stand-alone on a tab or embedded. The circle-slash persists.
Thank you all for the feedback. A bug was filed for this earlier today. When I learn anything new, I'll update this thread.
Until then:
Does this still work on your Firefox:
- right-click the image > Copy Image
- right-click the Desktop > Paste
Or is the clipboard also not working correctly (possibly related issue)?
That method works, as the save image right-click.

It has the circle-slash mouse pointer once I start dragging the image
I use two versions of windows on two different systems
Windows 7 Ult x64
Windows 10 Pro x64
Same problem on both platforms
I usually scroll through a page, open pictures I'm interested in in new tab and then, after reviewing them I drag the ones I need to my desktop. This stopped working after the ff68 update
The problem is NOT site specific and affects all images open in their own tabs

- right-click the image > Copy Image
- right-click the Desktop > Paste
Please keep us updated :)
Right click on image -> Copy Image -> Paste Image (on desktop) works fine Right click on image -> Save Image as works, but it saves the images in the default location, NOT the last used
I also downloaded the Developer edition of FF 69.0b3 (64-bit) and dragging and dropping appears to have exactly the same behavior

Could this be some sandbox permission issue?

Thanks, I've learn something new with that but, unfortunatly no, it doesn't solve the problem!

The copy past work, it's jsut the drag and drop that doesn't work anymore :/ !
this is what happen when I try to drag and drop! I have the preview thumbnail but with that interdiction symbol on it instead of my regular cursor, witch doesn't allow me to drop the picture anywhere!
I rolled back to v67.0.4 and drag and drop works fine! Will wait for the bug to be fixed before upgrading
I also noticed a strange issue when FF68 goes out of focus and back into focus for a couple of times, but can not replicate it. I just see the tab bar change colors (out of focus -> focus ->out of focus -> focus)
Hi Corro, multiple users are reporting this issue. It seems to affect many more people in Firefox 68 than it did in Firefox 67. So far, we haven't figured out what is going wrong.

When I first publish my problem I already was in 67 but I get the problem even before that, in 66, maybe 65!
I honestly couldn't say what change! I didn't remember any special installation, change of config or what! For what I could tell, the problem just appeared out of nowhere!

update Firefox decided that despite me having disabled the auto updates, it should go to v68 again, so I'm back to Google Chrome

1) Yes, this was happening on all sites I visit.
So very very strange, so I updated my FF Developer Edition but this didn't fix it.
I then performed the above steps you suggested, same behavior in the test profile also. BUT... When I went back to about:profiles and deleted that test profile I restarted firefox into my profile drag and drop worked
Not sure if that is helpful for narrowing things down, but it is working now. Thanks for your help.
