Stop adding sites to new tab page
Prior to installing update, When I opened a new tab only the 4 top sites that I have pinned would show up. After updating all other sites in my history are showing up on the new tab page and I have had to delete them manually. How can I stop NEW sites from popping up and just keep the 4 that I want??

What is the setting for rows and columns?
- browser.newtabpage.columns
- browser.newtabpage.rows
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

The new tab page is fluid - affected by the page zoom controls. You can zoom out to see fewer tiles. It will hold the zoom level for the first new tab that is opened, but additional new tabs when one is already open will be at the default zoom level. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/font-size-and-zoom-increase-size-of-web-pages#w_zoom-in-and-out-of-a-website
Depending upon the screen resolution being used the number of rows and columns will vary at the default zoom level. And a change made by Mozilla back around Fx 37 or 38 lessened the number of tiles that appear due to page margins changes vs versions before that.
Overall, if you want only 4 tiles to appear you would be better off using the New Tab Tools extension which allows you to specify the number of rows and columns that appear and is unaffected by the zoom level. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/ I use it to have a background image on the new tab page, to hide the search bar on the new tab page, and to set 3 columns & 2 rows of tiles.
