I lost all bookmarks when Firefox updated--apparently without my permission. The Restore Defaults in "customiz" is frozen. My toolbars are gone and Show/Hide Toolbars" in customize is frozen. I have no toolbars and zero bookmarks. Old Firefox Data was saved to my computer when the unauthorized Firefox update occurred -- so they are there -- I just can't restore them or access them. And I'd like my toolbars back.

This may happen on really old versions. Are you sure you actually updated? You are still on Firefox 32.0 which could be a problem.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

You can try to restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder in the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
