Recently reset Firefox and now the purple mask doesn't show; how do I know if in Private Browsing?

more options

I used Private Browsing (PB) in the past and had my options set to always start in PB. I recently had to reset Firefox due to very slow startup. Now I can't find where to set PB at startup. Also, according to your documentation there should be a purple mask denoting PB. But even when I start PB, there is no purple mask showing. So how do I know if I'm using PB?

The "mask" doesn't appear when permanent private browsing is set.
