Babylon has infected my computer and I cannot get rid of it, despite being uninstalled.

I have just become infected by Babylon and cannot remove it. I have searched for how and performed all the actions, but as soon as I re-start Firefox then Babylon is there ever present and my tabs are not. I am using Firefox 16 (latest beta).

Steps taken: 1 - uninstall babylon 2 - Checked the Add-Ons (Babylon was not installed here, and neither was it an extension) 3 - Changed Firefox Options > Options to reset the home page 4 - Remove all references to Babylon in about:config, including setting the default search engine back to Google 5 - Removed babylon.xml in C:\Program Files (x86)\mozilla firefox\searchplugins

Yet when I re-start Firefox all is to no avail - Babylon is present when Firefox re-starts. I have also closed the PC several times to no avail. Babylon still infects my browser, yet it not installed on the PC - how is this? How can it be removed?

Do you have a toolbar, or is the problem in the areas where usually you have Google search: home page, address bar search, search box? Probably the easiest way to clear up search settings is using an add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../searchreset/. If that doesn't work, there are some steps you can take manually as noted in more detail below.

Some users have preferred the Reset method rather than cleaning up individual settings. That's your call. More info on reset: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Note: a representative of the company has posted a support contact link in another thread in case you want to try it - answer-370099.

(1) Home page

You can choose the page in the options, but if the search box itself is linked to an unwanted search engine, you need to reset that. More info:

(2) Search box

You can use the drop-down at the left side > Manage Search Engines to remove Bablyon from this box.

(3) Address bar search

Regarding the printer reset, you use the about:config preferences page to make that change.

(i) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(ii) In the filter box, type or paste keyword and pause while the list is filtered

(iii) Right-click keyword.url and choose Reset.

Alternately, in step (ii), enter babylon and reset everything that refers to Babylon.

Hope this clears it.
