My homepage is repeatedly hijacked to searchup.org. I have just downloaded Mozilla Firefox to a new laptop and the problem started on the first day. Can you advise me how to get rid of the problem?

When Firefox is newly opened, even when I clear history and reset the homepage every time, it opens itself on searchup.org, which looks to me like a homepage hijacker.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for searchup via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.
You can reset all searchup related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

I think I may have solved this problem, I did try the above solutions but unfortunately they didn't work. However I downloaded Firefox 7 again, uninstalled my the Firefox I had and installed it again, so far so good. I was really surprised that this problem occured and I didn't like being redirected to another home page. I like Firefox and up until this happened I have never had any problems with Firefox.

Thank you, I thought it was just me. I thought that because I also cleaned out my system and took it back to the basics. I wasn't sure if it was to do with google/gmail. My email account is a gmail account, I have been trying to find another one for a while now but they all seem to have adverts attatched to them or some other niggle I don't like.

1. Kill guardServiceCh.exe in Task Manager (I used Auslogics Task Manager). 2. Delete (with pressed Shift) the folder "Program Files\Google\Common\Guard". 3. Reboot your comp.

Then what exactly do you want to achieve?

Can you give an example?
