Recently, my Google Search results have been rendered strangely. Some of the strangeness is 1) lack of Google Settings button in the upper right corner; 2) lack of estimated # of results at the top of the page; 3) lack of # of pp. at the bottom of the page; 4) lack of option to see cached versions of each result. I have cleared cookies and cache. I have run an anti-malware program. I have reiterated the problem in safe mode. What to do next to resolve the problem? (And, what would happen if I'd go to the FF pancake and click under History, "Clear site settings"?)

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

Att'd. are screenshots of the top & the bottom of the search results page. I just noted that at the bottom, there is a Settings link. When I clicked it, it told me that I wasn't signed in to Google. (I don't know whether that has anything to do with the problem.) When I tried, then, to sign in, a Google error message appeared: "Couldn’t sign you in. This browser or app may not be secure." This is despite the fact that I'm on an "https://" page. Please comment on this problem, too. Thx.

It is possible that you get a simplified mobile layout for some reason. That would also explain the message that your browser isn't recognized.

Maybe check this in a Private Browsing mode window.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox for a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox for this domain like history and cookies and passwords and exceptions and cache, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data for that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data for that website will be saved once again.

The problem does NOT occur in Private Browsing mode. Please explain.

Some add-ons are not active when using Private Windows. Also, in Private Browsing, all activity takes place using temporary folders. Not in the normal cookie and cache.

You did not say. Did you check out my post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1367049#answer-1481332

Thx, Fred. I had checked your post and tried those suggestions to no avail.

Suggestions for how I can revert to the correct rendering w/o using a private-mode browser?

Do you know how I can revert to the correct rendering w/o using the browser's private-mode?

Did you try "Forget About This Site" like I suggested above to see if that has effect ?
