I have ben using the bookmarks menu (written words, not the star, I have screen pri) on the bookmar toolbar. I am now missing a folder. How can I get it back?
I have lost or deleted a folder in my bookmarks menu. Not the star menu but the drop down under the words Bookmarks Menu on the toolbar. Since it is different, going back to restore does not help. Is there a way to get this very important folder back and is there a way to combine the two lists for the future so I would then be using the star drop down? Thank you.

If you notice such an issue and you haven't closed Firefox then you can use "Organize -> Undo" in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) to undo changes made in the current session.
If you aren't certain whether this folder has been removed or displaced then you can check the file names of the backups in the bookmarkbackups folder.
The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.
- bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

Hmm, there are so many star icons... but let me come back to that.
Checking for a misplaced folder
Usually what happens is that you accidentally drag and drop a folder into a different folder. It's still there, but hard to spot.
Firefox's bookmark search feature does not show bookmarks in their folder context, but there are add-ons which can do that. For example:
I haven't tested it again recently, but the reviews look pretty good.
Backups and Restore Issues
As you know, Firefox makes backups of your bookmarks, but the Restore feature works with them as an entire set, so restoring a backup may cause more harm than good. See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.
I have a tool to convert a backup file to the importable HTML format if you want to import, move the missing folder back into place, then dump the rest of the imported bookmarks. Or just for reference.
See: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/bookbackreader.html
The optional bookmarks menu button () should look very similar to the Bookmarks menu that drops from the menu bar. To add that button, either:
(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar
(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?
- Click the "Library" button:
- Click "Bookmarks"
- Click "Bookmarking Tools"
- Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"
Was that the star button you already had??
Note that you can open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) and set focus to the folder tree in the left panel. If you type one or two characters quickly enough then you jump to the next occurrence of this string. Tapping 'a' for instance brings you to the next folder that starts with an 'a' and tapping 'ab' to folders that start with 'ab'). This works in all treechildren type lists like the bookmarks sidebar, but only visible folders are found and not folders that are collapsed.
