I usually sort my messages by date so that the newest messages is at the top and the oldest at the bottom.

After reading and either deleting or moving a message, thunderbird automatically selects another message which always seems to be the one that's one row below the one that got moved/deleted.

Meaning: when I sort "youngest on top" the next messages is older than the one I deleted/moved. when I sort "oldest on top" the next message is younger than the one I deleter/moved

Is there a way to customize that?

Just click on the tick mark on the top tool bar it will change between ascending and descending order. In other words the older mails will show first if you wish. Or, if you tag it again the newest dates will display on the top first. Mozilla will always display the first message in the message pane if you have it active. Good luck!

I will try to rephrase my problem.

Messages have a "physical" order and a logical order. TB always selects the message below the one that I just deleted.

E.g. 7 am 8 am 9am

selected: 8 am -> delete result : 9 am is selected as current message

e.g. 9 am 8 am 7 am

selected: 8 am -> delete result : 7 am is selected as current message

TB des not follow the logical sort order but a "physical" sort order.

Every Email program that I am familiar does this. Such as; Outlook, Windows Live, Opera, T.B. and many others that I know.

Once you delete a message from your message list the system automatically selects the next message. That is the "Logical" sequence that the programs mentioned above use.

It is difficult to please everyone and especially those with specific difficulties using a program. So most programmers use a "generic" temp for programing the most popular desires of the majority. Actually I fail to see where this is a problem

Finally someone who understands and has a heart for those who are too stupid to use a simple mail program. Thank you. Very helpful.
