Can't download emails from 'all messages' drop down menu in Thunderbird since the Windows 10 April Update
From the 'Get Messges' drop down menu, I cannot download new emails for my 3 email accounts from 'Get all messages. I have to shut down and restart Thunderbird and then select each account separately from the 'Get messages' drop down menu. This problem started immediately after the Windows 10 April Update. Subsequent updates to Thurderbird version 52.8.0 madeno difference. The problem appears to lie in a failure to connect to the emai server(s).

What antivirus software do you use?
I use Avast. There is no change there as I have used Avast for some time now. I also use Ccleaner manually from time to time but I have always done that.
I have observed, since I posted, that once I have downloaded messages from each account individually I can then 'Get all messages' successfully whilst Thunderbird remains open (i.e. until I close Thunderbird).
Does this help?
I have just compacted the files and cleared history for each email account (from within Thunderbird) and this appears to have solved the problem. I have closed Thunderbird, shut down the computer, restarted the computer and restarted Thurnderbird -- Get all messages is now working normally.
I have had this problem for 3 months when I got this laptop. Gmail downloads fine on the smartphone and the W7 computer. However, the W10 computer sees all messages as not being new. Inbox has been compacted. Inbox.msf has been deleted. Popstate deleted too.
For some reason the W10 computer processes the files on the server differently than W7.
Thunderbird has also been deleted and reinstalled and it does not download any messages on the server.
W7 will download older messages in groups of about 275. However, it will download all the messages since the last download.
W10 will only download any messages that have not been downloaded to W7 or the smartphone.
The current version is 52.8.0 (32-bit) on both computers.
This issue occurs on W10 1709 and 1803.
Windows Mail downloads messages that Thunderbird will not download. However, I do not like Windows Mail. If Thunderbird downloads a message, Windows Mail will still download it.
Thunderbird is connecting using Pop protocol.
On a 2nd W10 computer, the Gmail account behaved as described, only downloading what it considered to be new.
However, when my main Gmail account was downloaded, it went back 30 days and downloaded 2223 messages. On this computer, there are two behaviors exhibited. One normal and one that sees only absolutely new messages that have not been read.
