I am now unable to open large emails Comcast.net in FireFox from my daughters cell phone. They open in IE but not FireFox even after Reset.

The emails are from 500k to 1m. Under older versions of FireFox I could open her emails, but not on the latest version. Internet Explorer opens them on Comcast.net but FireFox no longer does. This is for both Windows 7 and XP. I did a reset on Windows 7 but it did not fix the problem. There are no error messages.

Hello,

In Firefox 23, as part of an effort to simplify the Firefox options set and protect users from unintentially damaging their Firefox, the option to disable JavaScript was removed from the Firefox Options window.

However, the option to disable JavaScript was not removed from Firefox entirely. You can still access it from about:config or by installing an add-on.

about:config

  1. In the address bar, type "about:config" (with no quotes), and press Enter.
  2. Click "I'll be careful, I promise"
  3. In the search bar, search for "javascript.enabled" (with no quotes).
  4. Right click the result named "javascript.enabled" and click "Toggle". JavaScript is now disabled.

To Re-enable JavaScript, repeat these steps.

Add-ons

You can alternatively install an add-on that lets you disable JavaScript, such as

  • No-Script (to disable JavaScript on a per page basis, as required)
  • QuickJava (to easily disable and enable JavaScript, automatic loading of images, and other content)
  • SettingSanity (adds back removed options for JavaScript, Advanced JavaScript Settings, loading images, and showing the Tab Bar)

Thank you and I hope this helps!

Are the messages large because they have a media attachment such as a photo or video?

If you compare a small message and a large message, where does the process stall? For example, do you get a new window or new tab for both messages, or only for the small message. Does a page start rendering for both (from, to, date, etc.) or only for the small message.

Is there a specific message from Firefox, such as the request timed out, or other indication that Firefox gave up on loading it?

The default was javascript enabled. After toggling javascript to disable it Comcast would not even come up. It said it needed javascript. After re-enabling it Comcast came up and I still have the same problem. What is it with javascript and firefox?

Most of my emails are 100k or less. These emails have photos attached and range from 500k to 1m. There are no error messages. You just click to open it and nothing happens. I haven't had this problem before. It is on both Windows XP and 7. Comcast has a 25m limit so I am well below that.

I haven't seen the Comcast mail site for a long time. Does it use a reading or preview page so when you click a message it displays immediately? Or when you click a message it is supposed to load a new page (either in the same tab or a different tab)? Or is that what happens if you double-click the message?
