Why my trash folder empties automatically, despite settings?

My trash folder empties automatically every day. I've checked already numerous settings on account level as well as on folder level, but none of them seem to work (see attachment). I want to empty the mailbox always by myself as sometimes I still need old deleted emails.

This only happens when Tunderbird is active, so I guess it's been done by Thunderbird and not by some accounts settings of the mailbox itself. I'm using an IMAP mailbox (not Gmail).

Can anyone help me with an idea where I have to change the settings in Thunderbird to prevent this?

Have you set up the account to empty the trash folder when you exit Thunderbird?

  • Right click on imap mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Select 'Server Settings'

Under 'Message Storeage' Is this selected?

  • Checkbox 'Empty Deleted folder on Exit'

Uncheck this checkbox. Click on 'OK'

Hi,

Thanks for your reply! I checked both options (see image, sorry it's in Dutch) but they're both unchecked.

Also when I restart Thunderbird the few messages are still in the trash. It looks like only 1 time per day the trash folder is empties automatically. So still looking for the answer...

best!
