Over the last two days (March 27-29), I have been having a damn battle over Bookmarks. What have y'all done to them? Duplications. Bookmarks out of the folders. I gave up trying to clean up the mess so I deleted most of what I had. THEY KEEP COMING BACK...ALL OVER THE PLACE. Blank folders. Random bookmarks showing up in categories I didn't place them in.

What is WRONG? Make it stop!

Every time you guys update something, your break something else. Sometimes, it's just TOO MUCH.

Are you using sync?

If you have sync, and there is a problem anywhere, Shut Down Sync Immediately On All Devices to prevent the problem from spreading. Once the problem is fixed, perform the same repair on all computers/profiles before using sync again.

Hi,

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.

[v57+] Places Maintenance is built into Firefox.

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.

You will find Places Database near the bottom. Press the Verify Integrity button.

When done, copy and post the results here.

After 'Verify', this is what popped up...

> Task: checkIntegrity + The places.sqlite database is sane + The favicons.sqlite database is sane > Task: invalidateCaches + The caches have been invalidated > Task: checkCoherence + The database is coherent > Task: expire + Database cleaned up > Task: originFrecencyStats + Recalculated origin frecency stats > Task: vacuum

I shut off sync on my devices.

I've been using FF for YEARS. This has never happened before and I have been using SYNC for a while. It's like bookmarks sneezed all over all three browsers.

Maybe restore an older JSON backup from the bookmarkbackups folder.

The name of an automatically created JSON bookmarks backup in the bookmarkbackups folder includes a total item count (folders and separators included) and an hash value to prevent saving the same backup more than once. You also see this count in the Restore menu drop-down list.

  • bookmarks-YYYY-MM-DD_<item count>_<hash>.jsonlz4.

I can't do a restore because I have deleted everything.

I just won't sync anymore. It's clearly throwing data all over the place when it didn't before. I had my PC, laptop & stupidphone connected. Never again... What a nightmare.

Thank you, above, for all the quick replies.
