Hi, try this: Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.newtab.url and right click > Modify, to enter the URL of your choice - eg. google.com. You may then need to restart Firefox.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

In Firefox 41 that 'browser.newtab.url pref is gone. That pref was being hijacked by malware too frequently so Mozilla decided to remove that pref to eliminate that type of hijack, You will need an extension such as this to restore it. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/?src=ss
