I have a brand new computer (Samsung) - and I installed Firefox 17. and the newest flash - It worked fine for a few days.. Then randomly flash would crash and firefox and take it out basically.. I would need to uninstall flash, and Firefox. I have tried versions 17, 18 and auroa(sp?) betas.. with flash 10 and 11 versions.

Only thing not factory on the PC is iTunes, Firefox and Kaspersky AntiVirus.

I have tried to uncheck the hardware acceleration, in FF and flash..

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.

In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:

Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems

Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox

Iamjayajumars,

I have done these steps before posting.

I had the newest FF and Flash when I got a Brand new Laptop witn Win8.

I uninstalled FF and Flash. I went to Version 10.x (as mentioned in other trouble shooting documents) and Firefox and also tried Firefox 18 and Auorua(sp?) by Firefox as well. - The crash happens in all versions with 10.x or 11.3 (newest available)

I have turned off hardware acceleration in FF and Flash, protectmode=0 suggestions as well.

I also do not have realplayer installed nor has it ever been installed.

The only way I can get Firefox to work again correctlyis by uninstalling it and flash, and reinstalling the browser and then Flash. It will work for awhile till Flash decided to crash. By correctly I mean that youtube for example will have the text and ect badly formated, graphics not showing. A forum with flash chat I am on will contiune to update, but I am unable to send message on it.

Please note IE and Chrome both still work (Newest versions available)

Please any help is appreciated

Lots of work going on at Mozilla for Windows 8 compatibility, though

Iamjaykumars,

Is this a Win8 Issues with Firefox I assume then or Flash-Plugins for Firefox with WIn8?

With My testing I am going to assume it is Firefox as a whole (17, 18 and one of the nightly builds)

Is there any luck for a more stable version? I have a very new system with nothing but Chrome, iTunes and Kaspersky Internet Security added to WIndows 8 with the last update from Microsoft. I am more than happy to test and report back if it is helpful.

Thanks,

Scott

Still now Firefox provides 32 bit version only, not 64 bit version.

Check out Firefox beta. Nightly is unstable version. https://twitter.com/iamjayakumars/status/272748081857044480/photo/1

Iamjayakumars - I did try Beta (18.x something) with Flash 10.x and the new 11.x and it worked fine till Flash Crashed.

For it to work on any site with Flash Chat, or properly on others - I had to uninstall Flash and FireFox. Is there a work around for this - or is this the only way?

Thanks again

I'm having this same problem on an up to date Windows 7 machine. It is not just a Win8 issue. Adobe Flash and Firefox have been fighting with each other and causing browser lockups ever since I switched to Firefox 17.0. I managed to get things sorted out but then when upgrading to Firefox 17.0.1 it came back with a vengeance.

IE works just fine. Downgrading to previous major rev of flash didn't fix it with 17.0.1. Then downgraded to latest Firefox 16 and things work just fine. Don't have realplayer installed. My graphics card doesn't support turning off DirectX HW accel. Otherwise have been through all the steps...

Its actually not problem with firefox. Flash has some problem. This problem will be solved soon, once you started using HTMl5 websites. HTML5 doesn't need any flash.

Just got a new win8 laptop and loaded Firefox 18. It works for a random length of time, then the page format for some sites gets screwed up. Only way to recover seems to be to reset Firefox. Disabling addons doesn't do it. When Firefox is reset, all the addons are gone and I have to reload them all again.

Problem occurs on flickr.com and Facebook. No problem on other machines running win7 or vista. I did not install any flash addons and none are listed in the addons.

I tried Chrome and it eventually did the same thing, but I found a menu item to disable compatibility mode and that cured the problem (so far). I tried installing the compatibility check plugin on Firefox18 but it did not fix the problem.

I'm assuming win8 is the problem here, but when can we expect Firefox to work around this. I consider it unusable as is.

I added a facebook page screen capture, one working and one broken.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
