Please help me with this issue I have been having for a long time. Often when I open a web page it will keep running/loading multiple times, rather than stopping after loading once. This sometimes causes lag when I'm trying to scroll down the page. Moreover, when I try to use the back arrow to go back a page it just stays on the same page. When I right click the back arrow (which shows the pages this tab has been on) it will show the same page numerous times.

E.G. right now when I right click the back arrow it says this:

ask a question|mozilla support ask a question|mozilla support ask a question|mozilla support ask a question|mozilla support ask a question|mozilla support mozilla support yahoo.com ufc.com

...and so on.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Note that your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

PS, if a page had loaded multiple times, then you would have to press the back button multiple times.

If you are on one web page, and you want to check out a link but don't want to lose the current page, right click and select Open In New Tab / Window.
