Hi supmozilla, if you are interested in making the background tabs more visible, you could check out these custom style rules I posted:
- Much whiter background behind text: http://userstyles.org/styles/101038/high-visibility-background-tabs-australis-fx29
- Partially brighter background: http://userstyles.org/styles/101036/brighter-background-tabs-australis-firefox-29

Hi Consumer573, could you start a new question with your specific pain points, since it doesn't match the request here that already is marked solved?
Or use the Classic Theme Restorer extension which I think will fulfill your request to "junk the upgrade display and go to what was working fine." See: How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox.
I just want to get back to the Firefox 28 tabs, and I don't understand the thread's answer. I'll try classic restorer, but it talks about something called 'Australis' that I never heard of and I don't want it affecting my system.
I feel my question is spot on topic with the tabs.
My only slightly off-topic comment was that Mozilla did this to me without my permission, and I pointed to the thread where that was solved with an unexpected answer which explained what caused my tabs problem in the first place.

OKAY. JScher2000's reply is what did it for me. I used his link and it was straightforward. No Australis issues. FYI PC/XP.
I now have a red "Firefox" tab in the left hand corner that I didn't before, but the tabs are now distinct and readable again, more like 28. This is not the solution that is officially chosen, but it is the one that works for me.
What you were seeing is frustration. Sorry.
Thank you.

Hi Consumer573, you can adjust the settings for Classic Theme Restorer on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then click the Options button for the extension. On the main tab, there is an option to display or not display the Firefox/Application button. And dozens of other things throughout the various tabs.
J - you're 2 for 2. Perfect. The additional info is much appreciated.
(I just hope I don't need to come back and find this addd-ons page again for the next Firefox upgrade.)
This is now a valuable thread. I'm going to email it to a couple of folks who have the same issues, but haven't taken the initiative to come to the mozilla site and search. Your answer has probably helped at least 5 or six people more now know that I know the answer too.
