When I sign into a company website that I wish to buy a product from, I no longer get the little "padlock" in the lower right corner of my screen. Locked meant secure site and unlocked meant don't use it. Now I get no symbol. It doesn't matter if I have additionally signed onto their secure site. (llbean, cabela, amazon, 1800 flowers) all flopped in this regard. Even as I write this I'm not getting a little padlock so I don't even know if THIS is a secure site. This lack of a padlock symbol caused my husband to go to another company to place an order for flowers - and order by telephone. Me, too. Hope you can clear up the confusion. Mary-Anne

Firefox ever since Firefox 3.0 has been using the Site Identity Button

The padlock before only showed that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server. So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL. The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the Site Identity Button on the left end of the location (address) bar.

If you still want a padlock icon also then there is this Extension. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/padlock-icon/

Also the Status bar is now replaced by the Add-on bar. If you want the Status bar then see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
