How to stop Firefox from going to an already open tab when same site?

I'm trying to open the same site in two different tabs. Yet when I open a new tab and type the site I want to go to, the URL suggestions show the site as already being open in another tab and forces me to go that the open tab rather than allow me to open the site in the new tab. The only way I get around this is if I don't choose the URL suggestion and type the ENTIRE URL myself.

Why?? Why isn't there an option of opening the SAME site in TWO different tabs? Why is the only option being forced to go to the open tab? I don't care that I already have the site open. I sometimes need the same site open more than once so I can compare info or something. How can anyone think that FORCING us to go to the open tab is in any way a good idea?

No, I don't want to copy/paste the link. No, I don't want to have to manually type the ENTIRE link. I want to just being typing the URL, have the suggestions show up, choose the URL I want, and have it OPEN IN THE NEW TAB, not force me to the already open tab.

You can disable showing open tabs in the location bar drop-down list.

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show When you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar via Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security

  • Address Bar: When using the location bar, suggest:
    History
    Bookmarks
    Open tabs

You can hold the Shift key or the Alt key to disable the 'switch-to-tab' feature and see the full URL in the location bar drop-down list.

  • Alt + Enter opens the highlighted URL in a new tab
  • Shift + Enter opens the highlighted URL in the current tab
  • Cursor Right copies the highlighted URL to the location bar in case you want to edit it
